Gerald R. Black, Esq.

 

Gerald R. Black has more than twenty-five years experience in patent law. He was "Of Counsel" with Dykema Gossett of Detroit, Michigan, Associate Patent Counsel with Borg-Warner Automotive, Inc. and an intellectual property attorney with the Battelle Memorial Institute and Rockwell International Corp. - Aerospace Division (since acquired by Boeing). His strong corporate background has enabled him to develop an expertise in managing global patent portfolios.  Prior to completing law school, Mr. Black was a systems engineer with the Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corp.  

Mr. Black graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He received his Juris Doctorate from Capital University Law School. He has been admitted to practice in Michigan, California, and Ohio, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent Office.

Mr. Black is the author of Keyword Patent Searching Online – A Workbook.  The book uses the USPTO and the EPO search engines to obtain professional-quality search results. The workbook includes four invention disclosures and search solutions. Copies of the book are shelved at the University Of Leeds, the University of Queensland, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the California Institute of Technology, and the New York Public Library.
 

Mr. Black has taught one-day seminars entitled "Patents - A Global Perspective" for the Society of Automotive Engineers.  He also presented a two-day seminar on the same subject in Herzliya, Israel (1997), sponsored by Technion - Israel Institute of Technology

The technical trade publication “Machine Design” recently published an article (August 18, 2008), co-authored by Mr. Black about common myths and misconceptions of the patent system.  ”Machine Design” published another article, co-authored by Mr. Black about global patent protection (May 6, 2008).
 

In addition, Mr. Black is an inventor/entrepreneur and the sole inventor of U.S. Patent No. 7,363,505, U.S. Patent No. 7,281,135, U.S. Patent No. 7,082,213, U.S. Patent No. 7,047,419, U.S. Patent No. 6,970,583, U.S. Patent No. 6,925,565, U.S. Patent No. 6,539,101, and U.S. Patent No. 6,307,956, each involving the use of fingerprint sensors in pen-based systems.  Also, we recently launched a major program that provides fingerprint-certainty to any telecommunication involving a novel hands-free headset.
